Double Eagle Golf & Grill
Double Eagle in Eagle Bend, about two hours northwest of the Twin Cities, is a nine-hole public course with a clever twist: it’s really two courses in one. Built in 1983, it was one of the first courses in the country designed to be played in reverse. Every other day the direction of play flips, so the tees become greens and the greens become tees. The result is two distinct nines, the Gold Course and the Green Course, laid out over the same ground. Play on back-to-back days and you’ll see completely different holes, with new angles, new shots and new views of the same rolling countryside. The course was designed by Joel Goldstrand, a Minnesota native and former PGA Tour player whose courses are found all over the state. At Double Eagle he built something you won’t find at many other courses, and it’s well worth the drive.
