Applewood Hills Public Golf Course
Applewood Hills Golf Course, just west of historic Stillwater, is an 18-hole executive course carved out of an old apple orchard. That’s where it gets its name, and apple trees still line several holes. Designed by Neil Wilson and opened in 1994, it’s owned by the Wilson Golf Group. At par 62 and about 4,100 yards from the back tees, it’s a quicker, friendlier round that’s great for families, beginners and anyone short on time, though the greens are good enough, and tricky enough, to keep better players honest. The front nine is mostly par 3s, starting with a short, downhill opener through the orchard, followed by a 150-yarder with a big oak guarding the green and a pond behind it. The back nine brings more par 4s, including the uphill 11th with four fairway bunkers and the 14th, with a big bunker right in the middle of the fairway. Applewood is busy year-round. There’s a practice range, lessons and junior league golf in summer, and Trackman simulators and leagues in winter. Its clubhouse hosts events and weddings for up to 200 guests, overlooking the finishing holes and gardens.
