Edinburgh USA
Edinburgh USA in Brooklyn Park, just minutes from downtown Minneapolis, is one of the most celebrated municipal courses in the Midwest. Owned by the City of Brooklyn Park and designed by Robert Trent Jones II, it opened in the late 1980s to national acclaim, when Golf Digest named it the second-best new daily-fee course in America. Its championship pedigree is hard to match for a public course: it hosted an LPGA Tour event for seven years, the 1992 USGA Public Links and the 2013 Minnesota State Open. The layout winds around 12 acres of ponds and wetlands, and it was the first municipal course in Minnesota with bentgrass fairways. The signature 17th plays to a narrow island fairway and a peninsula green, and the 9th and 18th share a huge 40,000-square-foot “triple green” with the practice green, right in front of the Scottish-style clubhouse. A $2.5 million renovation led by Jones in the mid-2010s rebuilt every bunker, refreshed the greens and added new tees.
