Quarry at Giants Ridge

The Quarry at Giants Ridge, in Biwabik, is widely considered Minnesota’s best public course. Golfweek ranked it No. 1 among the state’s public courses in 2024 and 2025, and Golf Digest lists it among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses. Designed by Jeffrey D. Brauer, who also designed its sister course, The Legend, it opened in the early 2000s on an old sand, gravel and iron-ore mining site on the Iron Range, and the course makes the most of that rugged, rocky ground. It stretches past 7,200 yards from the back tees and plays with a links-style flair, rewarding both high shots and ground game. Expect slopes in the fairways that kick the ball forward, banks behind greens that feed it back, and greens that tilt away from you. Several shots are blind, so a yardage book helps. The star is the 13th, a drivable par 4 with three ways to the green, which Golf Digest named the best 13th hole built in America since 2000. Finish at the Wacootah Grille, which overlooks the 18th green and Lake Mine, a clear, cliff-lined lake known for its trout fishing. Pair it with The Legend for 36 holes in a day; Giants Ridge offers a summer package with lunch between rounds.
